no drawing today... but oh, my. boots.

I worked a 12 hour day today, and am lookig down the barrel of a 10 day tomorrow, before a very full weekend. No drawing tonight, and maybe not some until Sunday.

Instead, I bring you footwear. A NaBloPoMo favourite!

I went on a search for boots on a (very) rare mid-week day off last week. I did eventually find a pair of boots that are ok; that fit my very strict and specific criteria: fit in my meager budget, fit my size 10-1/2 to 11 feet, be flat but with enough (heel) lift to provide some support but not be teetery, be good to wear with a skirt at work, and good with jeans not at work. oh and be black, kinda kick-ass, and kinda feminine. Yes, I'm, um ridiculously expectant of my boots.

Even after not finding what I wanted in over 10 different stores, in three distinct parts of town, I gave up on the budget, and just wanted to find something that I liked. As inspiration. Something, that made me go "ooh". But alas, even the usual suspects were devoid of wanty-worthy footwear. So, I found my ok, cheap boots that will last me this season (toes crossed!), and went home.

But then, this week, the new line of Fluevog boots came out, and, can I get a "ooh", people?? Oh, my! Gor-gee-ous. Enter the season of wanty... (why oh why didn't the sale person at Fluvogs say that new ones were coming in so soon?! I was clearly not going to purchase the ones I tried on just for fun...)

Heads #28, 29, 30, and 31 - a progression of silly Danes

This is from a great photo taken in Photobooth the day I got my macbook. We had Danish relatives in town, and, well, the hilarity ensued. This is just the start of this drawing. There is my head to fix (apparently I'm coming to get you, Barbara...), and there is one more Dane head to add.

Head #27 - A, B, C

alternate titles:
"Two squiggles and a sketch"
"It's really late and cold, and I have to draw something tonight"
"Blue Pencil crayon is the only thing sharp enough to draw with and I can't find the pencil sharpener. Did I mention it's really late and cold?"
"study in hoodie - old apartments aren't very well insulated"

Head #26 - hunch or hobbit?

Didn't sketch yesterday, nor the day before, and my drawing muscle was a bit stiff... I think the drawing muscle consists mostly of the "push through the intense fear the moment before one puts the implement to paper." I did the initial sketch for this piece while I was making dinner, and it took me two times of stopping in front of the mirror with my graphite and sketchbook, before I actually mad ea mark on the page. The "gulp!" stopped me. ONce I did get going, everything boiled over on the stove right when I was getting into it. (Hey, that's one of those "learn to concentrate" ideas I was going to focus on for Nablomagogo... doing one thing at once... what a concept!)
Anywhoo, after dinner and a visit to a friend's for Heroes (eeeek!) I came back and finished my drawing just now. I'm not sure which version I like best, so I'm posting them both. We'll see what the fresh morning eyes will see.

This is the mask that I made on the head form from Friday's sketch. Of course, now the plaster face has its own green mask as I forgot to put something down underneath this when I painted it. A very nice outline was painted onto the plaster. *laugh* I guess now we match even more...
